Hello, is it possible that we can use this for one of our story cards for our story campaign on storium? storium.com/ We would like to use him for our "Adept of the Order nature". Please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I was watching the LOTR the other day and got to Theoden's last scene with Eowyn, and was reminded quote strongly of how I wrote a similar scene with the PC and Gorion, with whom she very much had a close father/daughter relationship. Gorion's death, under those circumstances, quite saddened me, and I recalled this portrait of yours and just how much warmth and fatherly kindness radiates from it.
I know I'd commented on this some many months before (maybe even years, not sure how long it'd been up) but I wanted to again tell you that this is by far the best work of Sage Gorion that I've ever seen. All your artwork, in fact, brings such a classic epic-fantasy storytelling feeling, with that subdued color of realism in portraits, but this piece of yours is my favorite.
awww that is such a lovely thing to hear; thank you so much for commenting!! I just love Gorion, too; you're making me kind of want to try to repaint/touch-up this one, now. (hmm if I only knew where the original file was lying around... xD)
huhhhhhhh wha?!! D: I'm pretty sure that's not acceptable to do without asking my permission or at the very least crediting me... right?? xD I mean, thanks for bringing that to my attention! But what do you think I should do?? AGHHHH that's not cool, bro! But I suck at writing angry letters. And it makes me more scared/sad than angry. ;_____;
I suggest you write a polite but strict email to the creator(s) in which you state your point and that you make it clear that what they did is illigal and if they won't take the picture out, you will sue them or at least contact Mojang or the owners of planet minecraft.
I suppose the mod maker thought, that it was official BG artwork and therefor free to use (since the picture also appeared in the forgotten realms wiki entry for Gorion or because it's the second google picture entry for Gorion). Because people think that's how it is. You should really start adding watermarks to your pictures, you know?
BTW, I reported the mod, let's see what this will bring.
Okay, he actually contacted me and apologized and is going to take care of it. Just a bit of an oversight, so it wasn't intentional or anything... so everything's cool now, whew! But thank you for noticing and intervening for me!
It's ok It really bugs me, when people just treat art as common property. Especially, when the art is as professional as yours, because let's face it, this is not the first time that the Gorion painting is mistaken for an official artwork (if you remember the Forgotten Realms wiki). Watermaking doesn't mean, that you have to put your name on it. I put my homepagelink on my drawings for example. On the other hand, if someone copyrighted your artist alias, you should sooner or later change it. At least when you want to make money with your art (I'm sure the other person can sue you when you make money under their name, but that's just specualtion).
I actually do make money already with my art! It's just under my real name. And I would feel weird if anyone I worked with saw all my silly Edwin fangirling (lol?? o_O) so I try to keep my dA account separated from my professional artwork. ;D
But you're right--seems like the best idea is to switch out my user name... I've had it so long, though. ;_; </3 baaah sorry, this is just making me whine more, lol, but seriously, thanks so much for your support; I really appreciate it. ^____^
oooh Liam Neeson... I actually have pretty mixed feelings about him. I mean, he's so good at playing paternal characters and I just love him like that, but then he has to be all sexy at the same time and UGH I'M SO CONFLICTED ;_;
No, but seriously, he'd be a great choice! ^^ I can't remember who all I used for reference on this picture, but I know I had Liam Neeson as one of my references for Keldorn. ;D
Oh, wow. He looks stern, and maybe a little sad: a proper lived-in face. You may have 'appropriated' the background but you've done a great job of integrating it into the whole so it all fits together.
I was wondering what should I say as critique for this artwork, except the perfect background!, the perfect expression of face!, the perfect play of light and shadows!, the perfect robe of his!, perfect view for the candlekeep library!, nice touch of the red on his lips!, good and strong colour of his eyes!, nice pose!, and so on...and I found out nothing. It's just perfect.
thank you!! I keep waffling on how much I should use references haha... he is like an extreme version of my reference-mongering where I had a bunch of high-res images to work with, so I got to cram in a lot of extra detail. xD
You know, I try really hard not to gush over drawings, but this Gorion portrait is phenomenal. Baldur's Gate NPCs talk about "Gorion the wizard," "Gorion the friend of the Harpers," "Gorion the adventurer" etc etc but this captures Gorion the sage of Candlekeep, and the life he adopted once he took (temporary) safe harbor within the fortress walls. It's a man I can see having raised two Bhaalspawn because he has this patriarch vibe going, and then there's the age and tiredness that shows from having to keep such a heavy secret. I adore it.
oh wow, thank you!! Yeah, Gorion has so many different faces, and I could obviously only focus on one--but I didn't want to do so to the exclusion of the rest, if that makes sense? Like...so you could still be able to see how he could be those other things too. ^^
